Let us probe the silent places, let us seek what luck betide us;
Let us journey to a lonely land I know.
There's a whisper on the night-wind, there's a star agleam to guide us,
And the Wild is calling, calling . . . let us go.

Day 2 - Godlin River Hike

We slept well until 8am when we were called to an awesome breakfast of pancakes, sausage, peaches, juice and coffee. Then we all four quickly threw together some gear for a hike down the Canol trail to the Godlin river.Saw some very fresh grizzly scat and some older prints of both a bear and a wolf (note the $1 Canadian coins for scale - these are large prints). We set Steve's trail camera up on the Trail about 20 minutes from Camp. It took us about two and a half hours to hike the distance to the Godlin river from Ram Head. But we spent considerable time looking at tracks, plants, a pair of tundra swans in lower Godlin lake, and just poking around. Debbie packed a delicious lunch of sandwiches, apples, cookies, cranberry bread, and candy bars. Phil caught his first grayling out of the Godlin river on a Mepps spinner. Noone else caught anything, although both Steve and I got a few hits on flies. It was overcast all day and after lunch a gentle rain began to fall; so we packed up our gear and headed back to the Ram Head camp. We got back to camp by 4:30p. Had a cocktail and then another amazing dinner. After dinner, Steve, Sandy and Bill ran a handful of bird loads through a Mossberg Defender that Stan offered to loan us so we wouldn't have to take Dad's Bernelli semiauto out into the field. Both Steve and Sandy did great, Sandy knocked several logs over. We shared a nightcap and were in bed by 10:30p tonight.
